Still reeling from the legendary Whitney Houston‘s death over the weekend, Wendy Williams broke down in tears this morning in front of her studio audience. After revealing her own past crack addiction she begged her studio audience to seek help for others who may suffer from drug abuse.
Wendy says she completely shut down after hearing the details of Whitney’s death.
“As we go to break, I’d like to have a moment of silence for my Jersey girl, Whitney Houston,” Williams said.
After I say what I say, I’m not talking about it anymore. I felt very close to Whitney although this is a woman I’ve never met. I interviewed Whitney once in 2003. Some of the things that Whitney and I have in common that bonded us is that we were both plagued with the demon of substance abuse. It’s been amost 15 years since I smoked last from a crack pipe. It’s been almsot 15 since I waited on Jerome averneu in the Bronx for my …drugs. I’m not proud of the girl that I was, but without being that girl I wouldn’t be the woman that I am today. So I have no regrets.
Through it all, I wish that both Whitney and I would both be sober and aware.. I always knew I would meet her one day in our late 50’s and 60’s with her being the number one spokesperson for ‘say no’. I thought we would meet and hug and we would be older and sober.. My heart goes out to Bobbi Kris – her daughter, her mother, her cousin Dion Warwick and her auntie Aretha Franklin.
In my own coooky crazy way I showed love to Whitney. The one time we did have an encouner she ended it and I said I love you Whitney and she said I love you too Wendy.. We were both apart of the subculture of our society .. The addict. Today on behalf of “ME” and anyboy you might know that is going through a stuggle with substance abuse, reach out to that person… and call them out on it.. Even if they don’t quit, once you call them out it makes it harder for them to sneak around and get high.
She ended by saying this is the last time she would speak on Whitney’s death.
Everyone in Williams’ studio audience had been given pictures of Houston to hold up.
