After witnessing Don Lemon bravely admit that he was now openly gay, One of televesions most notable reporters Anderson Coopered joined him today in his quest to live in truth.
The host of CNN’s “AC360” and “Anderson” has never publicly confirmed that detail about his private life before, but he’s never denied it, either. Cooper’s sexual orientation has long been an open secret, but it took an Entertainment Weekly cover story about gay celebrities to prompt the newsman to finally come out.
Daily Beast blogger Andrew Sullivan, , wrote to Cooper asking for his reaction to the story and published the response on his blog, The Dish, on Monday morning.
Cooper told Sullivan:
I’ve also been reminded recently that while as a society we are moving toward greater inclusion and equality for all people, the tide of history only advances when people make themselves fully visible. There continue to be far too many incidences of bullying of young people, as well as discrimination and violence against people of all ages, based on their sexual orientation, and I believe there is value in making clear where I stand.
The fact is, I’m gay, always have been, always will be, and I couldn’t be any more happy, comfortable with myself, and proud.
In other news: Chris Hughes! The Facebook co-founder married his longtime boyfriend over the weekend.
One of these days we will get to a point in society where saying “I’m gay” isn’t a big announcement..
