Up and coming rapper Swipey, whose real name was Douglas Brooks, had a bright future ahead. Swipey collaborated with hip hop artists Lil Durk and Shy Glizzy. In addition, he worked with well known Atlanta producer Jazzy Pha. He recently released a single entitled ” SNS: Sorry Not Sorry” that came out in July.
Not only was Swipey talented but he was intelligent too. Before being signed to the Men of Principles record label, he graduated high school at the age of 16 with a 3.0 GPA. Swipey had a scholarship to Morgan State University in Baltimore.
His mother, Freda Brooks, shared that he was so dedicated to music that he invested all of his money into making songs. She spoke with Fox 5 News and shared the following:
He graduated cum laude, he graduated from high school at 16,” said Freda Brooks. “He took all his money to make songs and do his stuff–from Christmas money to allowance. He was a good boy.”
Swipey was making moves.
Now, his family is in mourning and baffled as to why someone chose to murder their loved one.
On Monday morning, around 1:00 a.m., Swipey died as a result of being shot multiple times. A friend of Swipey’s wrote on Twitter that the rapper was shot in the head “twice at close range.”
Swipey died during a party at his mother’s home. Police and family members believe that his murder was not random.
