In Birmingham, Alabama, Jonathan Pitts, 19, has been charged with the brutal slaying of his mother, Cheryl Harrell, 41, whose body was found burned beyond recognition.
Police visited an apartment on Sunday after they received a missing person’s report from Harrell’s boyfriend who was looking for her.
While at the scene, the boyfriend and a witness began searching for the victim, and he found what appeared to be the charred remains of the victim inside of an abandoned apartment in the complex.
Sadly, the charred remains belonged to Cheryl Harrell.
Lt. Sean Edwards announced late Sunday night that detectives had a person of interest who was being questioned. He did not identify that suspect at that time.
