Last night my girl called and woke me up at 2 am wanting to go to breakfast.. I live on the strip so I was the first person she called after her gambling spree at one of the casino’s.. It’s 2am so I definitely wasn’t getting up to go eat breakfast.. Although in Vegas you can get a great steak and egg breakfast for $7 at the casino’s.. Anyway I ended up telling her to come over and crash in my spare room since she lived on the other side of town.. I had left over taco meat from earlier so I fried up some corn tortilla’s and made her some tacos.. Since I was now woke I decided to watch a movie on NetFlix. I LOVE my AppleTv. It’s one of the best gifts I ever received. It’s the only gift I’ve ever recieved that caters to the geek side of me. A geek gave it to me. I get really excited by cool technology.
I ended up ordering 6 Degrees of Separation with Will Smith. After talking and cooking at the same time I ended up having to press rewind a few times to catch the plot of the movie in the beginning.. Yes, I also do know how late I am in seeing the famous movie where Will is gay and caught in bed having sex with a man.
While the tale itself is quite fascinating. It’s the underlying story that really provoked some thought in me. The movie touches on the human imagination and the newfound lack thereof, and how people look down on imaginative people. But at the same time that’s what we really want in life.. We want to be able to live out our dreams.. We sit on the “sofa” imagining this great life we should be living. Although fantasy we badly want to turn this into our actual reality.. And that’s where people come in at.. When we meet people we want them to change our stories for us. We want them to pull us into another world. We want to be upgraded in refinement, finances and lifestyle.. We want them to entertain us.
It’s a lesson that there truly is only 6 people in the way of getting you onto living your dreams. If you network correctly you can reach the person that will change your life and along the way you can learn a little from each person in the process.. Which is what helps you impress that 6th person with the new knowledge you’ve acquired.
The movie reminded me of why vision boards are made.. It’s to aide you into bringing your dreams into life. Although Hollywood’s dreams are so big they will never make it past the big screen.. For the Hollywood dreams are just impossible. Like Star Wars. What an amazing story. I once read that Lucas actually dreamed that movie. While Avatar is also another highly imaginitive film it still can’t compare to Star Wars.
Watching the movie hits home because it reminds you that you are truly in control of your life.. You must paint your life the way you want it connection by connection. Life is nothing more then an empty canvas awaiting your instructions. It tickled me being reminded that the people who weave the best stories are the best liked in life. At the end of the movie those people actually appreciated being lied to. They appreciated being taken into a fantasy world even if only for one night.. The best thing about this is that’s real life. People often need aid in escaping thier own monotonous, mundane, boring, harsh realities. So the more entertaining you become the more likely they are to open their hearts and wallets to you. Your gift of weaving beautiful stories makes you the anecdote in the once boring life of others.
The most important piece in the movie was the woman with the job as the waitress. She had moved to NY to chase some dreams.. But then she took a job as a waitress to pay her bills, slowly she forgot her dreams and she started waitressing to live. Her job became her life. The money made her. She forgot to make the money and still chase the dream.
Everyone has voids that need to be filled, if you can become a master at figuring out one’s void’s then you will become a master at networking and open a whole new set of doors in your life. When you become that person you are free to soar and flap your wings like a butterfly – a free spirit. But that’s so far from reality that you will snap out of it and quickly come back to reality.. Reality is a familiar that people come to accept. But the beauty of life is that we are allowed and gifted with imagination that evokes change, so I was left wondering why more of us don’t chase it.
