Less than 5-months old with several stamps on her passport, lil Blue Ivy Carter is already out here tryna function. Now she can add dual citzenship to her accolades.
Beyonce and Jay Z’s baby girl has been named as an honorary citizen of the Island of Hvar in Croatia. The same place where the superstar couple vacationed when it was first learned that Bey Bey was with child. Photos of B in a white bikini on a sandy beach surfaced shortly thereafter .
Croatia is also the same magical island that was the inspiration for Blue Ivy’s name:
“We woke up this morning, took a nice little walk, passed by this beautiful blue tree,” a pregnant Beyonce shared while pointing out the unusual-hued plant covering the tree’s bark in a personal video clip released on her blog this spring. “I think it’s Blue Ivy, which would be quite appropriate!”
Since that clip was posted in April, tourism in Hvar has substantially increased and the island was even named as Lonely Planet’s fifth best vacation destination in 2012. The island wants to thank the prestigious couple for putting Croatia on the map.
“The story of the origin of the name of your daughter has brought enormous media attention and therefore tourist promotion to the town and island of Hvar,” Major Pjerino Bebic wrote in a letter to the family. “Because of this, I have decided to confer on your daughter the status of honourary citizen of the town of Hvar.”
Mayor Bebic also invited the couple to return to Hvar, which is considered to be the “sunniest town in Croatia.”
Earlier this month, Beyonce, 30, excerpted a passage from author Rebecca Solnit’s 2005 book, A Field Guide to Getting Lost. The recurring theme, blue, was interpreted as an homage to Blue Ivy.
Blue Ivy lives that good, good life!
