TALLAHASSEE, Florida – Starquineshia Palmer, 20, is charged with first-degree murder in the killing of her girlfriend Shannon Washington, 20 a shooting guard at Florida A&M University.
Shannon Washington died early Sunday morning after being stabbed in her neck and her back.
Starquineshia was in town visiting, staying with Shannon for the holiday weekend. At about 2 am early Sunday morning the two were partying with friends when they got into a argument, it turned violent when Palmer grabbed a nice and ended the domestic dispute. Washington was stabbed in her back and neck and died later at a nearby hospital.
Shannon Washington is a former star player for Sarasota’s Riverview High School. She earned her All-American honors twice at Illinois Valley Community College in Oglesby, Ill before she transferred this year to Florida A&M University
Palmer remained in the Leon County jail with no bail and ordered to take a drug test on Monday.
A memorial service was held Monday for Shannon Washington with students and coaches from the school in attendance.
Overcome with emotion, Florida A&M women’s basketball coach LeDawn Gibson’s words were barely audible as she tried to share memories of a fallen star whose life ended less than 48 hours after she had proven her toughness during a preseason conditioning drill.
She stated there was a lesson to be learned in this and that lesson was to hang around people with good character.
Several in the overflow crowd that packed FAMU’s Lee Hall also sobbed during a vigil Sunday night to celebrate the life of Shannon Washington, a junior college All-American who was about to begin a promising career with the Lady Rattlers.
