Jesus Would Have Supported Gay Marriage, says Elton John

Elton John is one of those famous, flaming, genius’ who frequently says things that would leave one to believe the singer is out of his mind.

This time Elson said: Jesus would have supported gay marriage.   The musician also said that rules preventing gay clergy from marrying and those which require Catholic priests to be celibate were ‘old and stupid things’. Okay, so half of what said clearly makes perfect sense.

In an interview with Sky News’ Murnaghan discussing his upcoming marriage to David Furnish, John discussed the church hierarchy, the Christian religion and the way he thinks things should be.

He said:

‘The church hierarchy, the traditionalists, might be up in arms about it but times have changed.
‘If Jesus Christ was alive today, I cannot see him, as the Christian person that he was and the great person that he was, saying this could not happen.

‘He was all about love and compassion and forgiveness and trying to bring people together and that is what the church should be about.’

Oddly enough,  in the New Testament, Jesus had absolutely no dealings with gays, although he seemed to come into contact with every other type of sinner…  All we know is that in the Old Testament the cities Sodom & Gomorrah were both burned down because everyone was turning gay..  Interesting..

Even more interesting is that Elton John is not the first person to bring Jesus into the gay marriage debate.  Several memes exist on the topic.
