One of the best wide receivers for the last nine years is going to retire after this season. When someone mentions the name Megatron, you don’t think of a football player. When you hear the word Megatron, you think of a transformer. A transformer, as you may know, is a robot that turns into a vehicle. Well the real Megatron, Calvin Johnson is somewhat a transformer also. When Calvin Johnson puts on that Lions uniform, he transforms into Megatron, the best wide receiver this league has ever seen in the last 9 years.
Calvin Johnson was born on September 29, 1985, in Newnan, Georgia. By the time he was in middle school, he was already 6 feet tall. He was 6 feet and 4 inches when he reached the 10th grade. While in high school, he started three seasons and made 74 catches for 1,382 yards and 20 touchdowns.
While in the league, he has had 731 receptions for 11,619 yards, 83 recorded TD’s, 4 All-Pro Selections, and 2 Playoff Games.
On February 1st, he announced that he will retire at 30 years old. When asked what will he do now that he is retiring, he simply said, “love my family”. Megatron can now transform from the Hall of Fame Pro Baller to the family guy he has always dreamed of becoming. He will surely be missed.
