Florida Dad Leaves 5-Year-Old Son Behind During Police Chase Because He “Couldn’t Keep Up”

A man fleeing police in Pembroke Pines bailed out of his car and took off running with his 5-year-old son, yelling at him to “keep up” before leaving the boy behind, police said.

Sun-Sentinel Reports:

Jerry McCabe, 27, of Dania Beach, was arrested Tuesday on charges including fleeing from police, driving without a valid license, child abuse, child neglect and drug possession.

Police noticed the driver of a black Dodge Charger, later identified as McCabe, was not wearing a seat belt. When the officer attempted a traffic stop, the driver took off.

During the pursuit, the driver made abrupt turns and, at one point, made a left turn onto Pines Boulevard from the right-turn lane, police said.

Police caught up to the vehicle, which had two tires blown out, at a Chevron gas station at 6200 Pines Blvd. Witnesses told police they saw a man and a boy get out of the car and start running.
